John Stuart Thibadeau, 88, of Cumming, GA died on January 16, 2014. Born in Atlanta, GA.
John graduated from Druid Hills High School and Georgia Tech. He served in the US Navy during WW II as a Lieutenant. In 1949 John founded the Thibadeau Company with his brother Bill – involved in real estate development, construction and sales. In 1978 he sold his share of the company to his brother and established Thibadeau-Burton Realtors with his sons. He was a founder and Past President of the Georgia Multiple Listing Service. John served on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the East Metro Division of the C& S Bank and a Director of the Visual Understanding Company.
Many honors were given to John for his professional work. He was named Decatur Lions Club Man of the Year in 1967; was Past President and voted Realtor of the Year two times for DeKalb County; Past President and Realtor of the Year, State of Georgia Association of Realtors; served on the Executive Committee and Regional Vice President of the National Association of Realtors servicing Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. In 2012, he was elected to the Georgia Realtor Hall of Fame.
Throughout his life, John gave back to the community through his volunteer work. He served a variety of leadership positions at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church; Department of Human Resources, State of Georgia; Chairman of Decatur-DeKalb YMCA Board of Management – and founded the Health Club; Trustee of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association; active with American Cancer Society, DeKalb County; President of Briarcliff High School PTA; President, Druid Hills Lions Club – voted best in Georgia; Director, Druid Hills Golf Club; Trustee, Methodist Children’s Home; Director, Atlanta Area Boy Scouts of America and Assistant Scout Master Troop 231.
